Indoor recycling location required

TerraCycle TigerSussex Green Living have linked up with a company called TerraCycle to recycle previously unrecyclable packaging and products.  TerraCycle have signed up manufacturers who want their products waste resources to be diverted from our landfills and incinerators.  Both of these disposal options produce added carbon and other greenhouse gases, these waste materials will now either be upcycled or recycled into new products, which reduces the need for new materials to be extracted from our planet. More information about the recycling schemes we have set up can be found here.

CAN YOU HELP? We are looking for an indoor location or locations in Sussex to provide a drop off location for the new TerraCycle waste coffee packaging recycling scheme.  More information can be found here

TerraCycle Coffee brigade

This recycling scheme is called the Coffee Packaging Brigade and will initially have 100 recycling locations – each sign up will act as a location for local people in that area to drop off their coffee packaging waste – so any brand of:

  • coffee refill packs
  • coffee jar lids
  • coffee bean bags
  • coffee sticks (the individual servings)

Each of the 100 locations will receive a collection box (60 litres and its 38 cm in diameter – its sturdy cardboard so would need to be housed somewhere indoors) that will be placed in a location that the local population has access to drop of the coffee packaging waste too. So this could be a public amenity like a library, community centre, town hall or a retailer for example.  The administrator for each location can choose the charity or not for profit organisation who will benefit, 2 pence for the weight of each unit (no minimum shipment size).

Sussex Green Living could act as the administrator, in which case the funds would be split between the William Penn Primary School in Coolham and Sussex Green Living (to fund our Green Children’s Educational Club).  Or if you can offer a drop off point and you want to administer this recycling initiative, the funds could go to a charity or not for profit organisation of your choice.

The locations of the collection boxes will be listed on the TerraCycle website and they will help with local PR in newspapers and radio.  For more information please contact us.

We want you, the people of Sussex, to take some ownership of Forward your suggestions for events, videos, parks and green spaces etc to be added to “your” site.

“Greening Sussex by Sussex families”

About Carrie Cort

My name is Carrie Cort, I set up Sussex Green Living out of concern for the way we humans are treating the planet which sustains us. With motherhood in 2008 came concern about environmental sustainability and a burning desire to learn how we can live more environmentally friendly lifestyles, in harmony with nature. I have always had a passion for the countryside, animals and the natural environment. Most of my career has been spent in marketing and communications, mainly within education and the landbased industries, latterly using the power of video communications. In an effort to help create a climate for change I decided to use my knowledge and digital skills to share ideas which anyone can adopt, saving money and the planet. I’m not an expert, just an ordinary person who is on a greening journey and wanting to pass on what I’ve learnt to others. Let’s all make some simple changes, become more resilient and try to lead simpler, less materialistic and consumerist way of life.
