Green play at the Sun and Moon!

Planting herbs on Earth DayWe are really excited to be going on the 16th – 23rd August to the Sun and Moon festival at Plumpton Agricultural College in East Sussex for a week of family fun. Sussex Green Living have been invited to run three Green Play sessions for 5-11 year olds.

Our sessions will include games with the Sussex Green Living upcycled robots and Pedro our special red eyed South American tree climbing frog. They will help explain the importance of recycling, reduction and reusing waste resources. These fun and playful sessions will explore the connection between waste resources and the wonderful planet which is trying to sustain us.

There will be lots of opportunities for the children to reuse waste resources, giving them second use by making new treasures, which include:

  • Bug hotels out of flower pots and pages from magazines.
  • Flowers out of plastic milk bottle lids and metal coat hangers.
  • Pretty necklaces out of unwanted colourful magazines.
  • Flower garlands out of unwanted silk flowers.

We will also be using natural materials such as clay to make bugs, insects and tree spirits – so we can honour the trees, which clean our air and offer wonderful homes to the wild mini-beast of our world.

THIS IS WHERE YOU CAN HELP? We need…unwanted colourful magazine (seed/plant catalogues, gardening, wildlife and children’s magazines are ideal) to make upcycled bead necklaces and flower pot decoupage. Unwanted silk flowers and metal coat hangers so we can show people how to re-wire the flowers and give them a second life as floral garlands. Any colour plastic milk bottle tops and metal coat hangers, (we had thousands but they recently went off to be recycled), we want them to make plastic bottle top flowers.

If you have any of these waste resources please contact me on 07768 212833 or (I live near Billingshurst) or Jean Francis 01403 273754 (who lives in Horsham) to arrange for us to collect or for you to deliver the materials.

Many thanks.

Win a ticket

This is your chance to win an adult (15+) ticket worth £160 if you share our post in Facebook or retweet in Twitter – your name will be put in a draw to win! The ticket will allow access to all of the workshops and activities during the entire week!

Workshops and activities for adults and children of every kind will be taking place. One of our green helpers Jean Francis will be delivering three workshops at the Sun and Moon family festival on Creating Your Own Ceremony. The aim of these workshops is to show people that they can design their very own personal loving and heart-felt ceremonies which reflect their personalities, values, religious beliefs (if you have them) and building in lots of money saving ideas.

You can learn more about the festival and buy one day, three day or six day tickets here.

About Carrie Cort

My name is Carrie Cort, I set up Sussex Green Living out of concern for the way we humans are treating the planet which sustains us. With motherhood in 2008 came concern about environmental sustainability and a burning desire to learn how we can live more environmentally friendly lifestyles, in harmony with nature. I have always had a passion for the countryside, animals and the natural environment. Most of my career has been spent in marketing and communications, mainly within education and the landbased industries, latterly using the power of video communications. In an effort to help create a climate for change I decided to use my knowledge and digital skills to share ideas which anyone can adopt, saving money and the planet. I’m not an expert, just an ordinary person who is on a greening journey and wanting to pass on what I’ve learnt to others. Let’s all make some simple changes, become more resilient and try to lead simpler, less materialistic and consumerist way of life.
