3 March – Happy World Wildlife Day!

On 20 December 2013, the UN General Assembly declared 3 March as World Wildlife Day to celebrate and raise awareness of the world’s wild animals and plants.

This year the main focus will be the plight of elephants under the title “The Future of Elephants is in our Hands”.

As a result of the 2015 Jackson Hole Elephant Conservation Summit the International Elephant Film Festival was introduced to galvanise the power of the media and bring elephant conservation to the fore. Winners will be announced at the UN in New York City today. Watch the video here.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said: “On this World Wildlife Day, I call on all citizens, businesses and governments to play their part in protecting the world’s wild animals and plants. The actions taken by each of us will determine the fate of the world’s wildlife. The future of the wildlife is in our hands!”

Unless poaching is stopped there is a very real possibility elephants will die out in the wild. Support and share every way you can. #InOurHands
