‘The Future We Want’ Billingshurst Carnival procession

Want to join a climate action procession to express the urgent need for people to make changes to their lives to reduce the effects for climate change? Want your children to inherit a healthy planet? Join us as we march for the third year running for ‘The Future We Want – LESS C02’ and climate action.

When: Sunday 30th June

Where: The procession will depart from Jengers Mead, Billingshurst at 12 noon, arriving at Billingshurst Show just off of Lower Station Road *.

Led by Carrie Cort the founder of Sussex Green Living (SGL), volunteers from this West Sussex network and members of the public. Carrie trained with Al Gore the former US Vice President and leading climate change scientists as part of the Climate Reality Leadership Corp.

The processions will consists of walkers, cyclist and EV cars with lots of messages and banners. The Billingshurst Rotary Carnival Procession theme is ‘Tell us a story’, we want to tell two stories:

1.      The Story if we do not change – people and banners explaining the consequences of not changing.

2.      The Story if we changee – people, cyclists and banners explaining the most important things people can do to live more sustainability. EV cars can be decorated with bunting, banners and using our special auto marker pens spectacular messages (if owners wish). These pens are designed for non-porous vehicle surfaces, such as paintwork and windscreens.

* Please confirm your planned participation by Monday June 24th. by registering on our Facebook event page here or emailing Carrie. On Sunday 30th June we plan to meet behind the parade of shops in Jengers Mead by 11.15am (parents must be responsible for any children they bring). The procession will leave Jengers Mead at 12 noon.

Cars/vehicles must arrive between 10.30am – 11am. Cars joining the SGL procession should park by the garages behind the parade of shops.  The high street will be closed to vehicles by 11.15am.

Dress code for the procession: The Rotary have asked that members of our procession wear something in common, so as they enter the Show Ground the stewards know they are part of the procession and not just members of the public trying to get in free. If you are marching with messages about The Future We Want either dress in colourful clothes with a greener living message – a hero, or a ‘future we do not’ want message – villain in dark or black clothes. Get creative with greener living costumes and banners, the world is your oyster! We will aim to bring some floral garlands or pop a flower behind your ear!

Note: Sussex Green Living was instrumental in the recent formation of the South East Climate Alliance. a group which formed as a result of a Sussex Green Living event earlier in the year. SECA is a coalition of local environmental, faith and community groups across South East England seeking action on climate change and calling on local councils to declare a climate SGL, SECA and members are pushing climate change and climate action up the agenda. Many members will be joining this climate action parade. There are also 8 Climate Reality Leaders in West Sussex, some will join the march. In the UK there are about 160 Climate Reality Leaders and around 19k in the World.
