We have hand picked some of our favourite local family and school events and environmental awareness campaigns. We will be attending some of these events with our Green Recycled Stand and or delivering workshops/talks.
March
3-5th – The Great British Spring Clean
6-10th – Waste Week. Organised by The Pod, an organisation that works with schools to promote environmental awareness and STEM careers
9th – Sussex Green Living Green Day at Chichester Free School
11th – 23rd – 10 – 3pm – Kinder Tech, County Hall North, Horsham. Part of the Kinder Living Show, this event will enable people to bring broken laptops and PCs to a team of repairers (free of charge) to diagnose problems and discuss solutions. There will also be a recycling point for old mobile phones and West Sussex County Council’s Waste Prevention Team will be on hand to advise on safe disposal of tech. More information here

22nd – World Water Day, the theme for 2017 is wastewater
24th March – E.Y.E. Eco Summit at Littlehampton Academy. About 100 pupils from 7 Primary Schools Years 5/6 are expected. Sussex Green Living are delivering a workshop – The eco footprinting game looking at the journey of an Easter Egg. More information here
25th – WWF Earth Hour is a worldwide movement for the planet . Once a year individuals, communities, households and businesses are encouraged to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour, from 8.30 to 9.30 pm, as a symbol for their commitment to the planet.

29th – South Downs National Park Outdoor Education Teachers Conference at Plumpton College, East Sussex. Carrie from Sussex Green Living is jointly presenting a workshop with Nicola Peel on Environmental Solutions and Systems for secondary school teachers. More information here

10th – 16th – National Gardening Week
22nd – Earth Day – This year’s campaign centres on environmental and climate literacy. The Earth needs you to take a stand so that together we can show the world a new direction! Our world leaders can follow by example. Learn more here
May
7th – 13th – Compost Awareness Week aims to encourage more people to realise the benefits of home composting and the great results that can be achieved by using peat-free composts containing recycled material. Throughout the week a variety of organisations will be encouraging people to give new composting activities a go
12th – 14th – European Clean up days. Several clean-up campaigns have been implemented in Europe over the past years to tackle the litter problem. The European Clean-Up Day, intends to bring these initiatives together to have a Europe-wide clean-up event that takes place on the same day all over the continent; involving and reaching as many citizens as possible. 13th – Green Fair organised by Transition Chichester at the Assembly Rooms, North Street, Chichester and open to the public from 10am until 4pm. We will have our recycled green stand at this event
15th – 21st – National Vegetarian Week joins people around the world, raising awareness to the ethical, environmental, health and humanitarian benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle
15th – 19th – National Walk to School Week – Join thousands of children across the country celebrating the benefits that walking brings. The ‘Walk to School Week’ 2017 challenge packs are perfect to further encourage children to give walking a go this May. This year’s challenge will take pupils on an imaginary journey from the dramatic skylines of the city, via rolling countryside, to charming coastal areas.
22nd – International Day for Biological Diversity
June
3rd – 4th – The Floral Fringe Fair at Knepp Castle, West Grinstead, West Sussex, RH13 8LJ. The Floral Fringe Fair is a traditional outdoor event on a county estate. The Fair aims to inspire people to make their gardens wildlife friendly. Sussex Green Living’s 100% recycled stand, Pedro and his recycled robots will be there, playing green games and giving ideas as to how people can lead a greener life. More information here
1st – 7th – National Volunteer Week
5th – World Environment Day – The theme for 2017 is ‘Connecting People to Nature – in the city and on the land, from the poles to the equator’. We need to get outdoors and into nature, to appreciate its beauty and its importance, and to take forward the call to protect the Earth that we share. This year’s theme invites you to think about how we are part of nature and how intimately we depend on it. It challenges us to find fun and exciting ways to experience and cherish this vital relationship.

8th – World Ocean Day people around the planet celebrate and honor the body of water which links us all, for what it provides humans and what it represents. Be a part of this growing global celebration!
11th – Open Farm Sunday is a fantastic opportunity for everyone, young and old, to meet the farmers who grow their food and care for the countryside. Search for a farm to visit here.

20th – E.Y.E. 10th Worthing & Adur Eco Summit, Davison CE High school for Girls. Primary and Secondary from Worthing, Adur and surrounding areas are invited to be part of this event. 28th – The Big Bang Fair South East – Part of a nationwide programme, the Big Bang celebrates and raises the profile of young people’s achievements in science and engineering. In 2017, The Big Bang Fair South East will be held on Wednesday 28th June at the South of England Showground near Ardingly, West Sussex. It is suitable for older primary students (key stage 2), as well as secondary students. Sussex Green Living are taking a stand and will be running activities with children encouraging ‘A Climate for Change’.
July
1st July – Clothing repair cafe, come along and repair, remake and redesign clothes at the the Transition Horsham monthly event. Venue Quaker Meeting House, Worthing Road, Horsham, RH12 1SL 9.30am – 12.30pm, by donation. Learn more here. Delivered by SGL and our community creative sewing group. There will also be an Ecover refill service available and refreshments.
9th – Funday Sunday, Horsham Park. A fun family event with a full programme of entertainment, including a display of Eco Beast Sculptures (children’s upcycling competition), an Eco Fashion Show, green market stands, funfair and much more. 13th – Connect with the Countryside Day at South of England Agricultural Society, Ardingly. Sussex Green Living is taking a stand and running activities with about 2,500 primary school children to encourage a ‘Grow Your Own Revolution’. 30th July – 5th August – Sun and Moon Festival, this is a family wellbeing festival which is taking place at Herstmonceux Castle, East Sussex, BN27 1RN. Sussex Green Living will be there delivering Green Play workshops for the children, an Al Gore Climate Reality presentation and an illustrated talk on the Philippine Community Fund and living on a dumpsite in Manila

2nd – National Playday is a day when thousands of children and their families get out to play at hundreds of community events across the UK. From small-scale events to thousands of children taking over Trafalgar Square – Playday is celebrated by each community in a way that suits them

15th – 18th– Great British Beach Clean – Beachwatch, organised by the Marine Conservation Society, is our national beach cleaning and litter surveying programme – helping people all around the UK to care for their coastline. To find out more or locate your nearest event visit this website

Now in its 14th year, this established and highly regarded annual campaign continues to educate and stimulate behaviour change. It gives people the tools to minimise waste and manage material resources responsibly at home, work and school
