/in Seasonal celebrations/by Carrie CortIf you’re lucky enough to have your own apple tree(s) don’t let the fruit fall and rot on the ground. A green birthday present
/in Seasonal celebrations/by Carrie CortRather than buy a plastic toy which has gathered a huge carbon footprint by being imported from China, why not buy a child a butterfly kit? Watch them Grow and Let them Go!
Raise five Painted Lady Butterflies while learning all about metamorphosis with Insect Lore’s best selling Butterfly Garden. See each caterpillar’s transition as it matures, changes into a chrysalis, and finally emerges as a Painted Lady Butterfly! After observing your butterflies, experience the joy of releasing them into your garden or the park. Read more
Summer Activities
/in Green art & games/by Carrie CortThe summer holidays have arrived and it looks like we may have some rainy days between now and the children going back to school. With all that time to fill, why not try some of our Rainy Day Play or get the children making some Green or Eco Art?
Whether it is building robots or castles with boxes, rockets or 10 tin bowling with steel cans, Olympic torches with cardboard tubes, yoghurt pots and foil, elephants with bottles, tubs and foil or perhaps a bottle top flower for the garden. They are all fun and creative activities which cost nothing, entertain the children and most importantly teach us to use rubbish as a waste resource.
Or put on your boots and rain coat (maybe your sun hat and sun cream) and get into the great green outdoors. In the Kids’ Zone on the Sunny Day Play page you will find lots of ideas for places to visit.
We want you, the people of Sussex, to take some ownership of www.sussexgreenliving.co.uk. Forward your suggestions for events, videos, parks and green spaces etc to be added to “your” site.

Renewable energy from abandoned viaduct!
/in Eco News, Energy/by Carrie CortAn abandoned viaduct is to be transformed into a Wind Turbine
A bridge that repurposes abandoned viaducts, produces energy AND looks futuristically sleek? Yes, it can be true, and it is Italy’s proposed Wind Turbine Viaduct called “Solar Wind.” Southern Italy is dotted with unused viaducts, and rather than spending $50 million to tear them down, town officials near Calabria held a competition called “Solar Park South,” open to designers and engineers asking them to come up with an environmentally conscious way to re-use the existing structures.
