Handcrafted Christmas crackers

Ideas for a greener Christmas in Horsham

On Saturday 27th November and Saturday 18th December come and join us at the Sussex Green Hub in Horsham, share ideas and learn how to create a greener Christmas. You will find upcycled Christmas crackers for life making (learn more below), pre-loved Christmas jumper sale, upcycled Christmas tree decorations and gifts, upcycled Christmas cards, better recycling at Christmas and more greener Christmas ideas.

Also at the Sussex Green Hub each month is our Horsham Repair Cafe, so if those Christmas lights and electric Christmas wears will not turn on this year book them in for a fix here.

Our Christmas Inspiration Eco Station (milk float) will be ably staffed by our Sussex Green Living recycling volunteers in the Bishopric (in front of Wilko). They will be focusing on what people can recycle in the council bins, through our single use plastic recycling and what people can recycle through the big supermarkets now. We will have a big display promoting recycling crisp packets at Christmas and there afterwards!

At the Sussex Green Hub each month you will find other environmental, faith and community groups including Transition Horsham, Horsham Eco Churches and Horsham Community Fridge. Each month from 10am onwards Horsham Community Fridge give away excess food from local businesses, supermarkets and allotments, that would otherwise be wasted, so come and get yourself some free food. Learn all about it here https://www.facebook.com/horshamcommunityfridge.

If you want to try your hand at making upcycled Christmas crackers for life you will need to bring the following material per cracker:

  • Two cardboard toilet rolls
  • One kitchen roll (these tubes need to fit within each other)
  • Small pieces of material (colour your choice)
  • Small pieces of ribbon
  • Any of last years Christmas cracker decorations, hats, toys and jokes. Or you can write your own jokes and pop a chocolate in each cracker. You can purchase Christmas cracker poppers from Hobbycraft or online.

The Sussex Green Hub takes place on the last Saturday of each month at the United Reformed Church, Horsham, RH12 1PT (near Wilko off West Street and the Lynd Cross pub and opposite St John the Baptist Church) 10 – 4pm.

Come and visit our high street presence in the new Horsham Pop-Up Shop

You will find a Sussex Green Living and Horsham Repair Cafe display in the new Horsham Pop-Up shop in West Street (in the old C&H Fabric shop). Pick up our leaflets and learn more there. Soon we are planning to have volunteers available one day a week to chat to people about our work and actions they can take to reduce their carbon footprint.

Wishing you a happy Green Christmas!
