Is our water supply in West Sussex being poisoned?

Poisoned_waterTo Frack or not to Frack this is the question……You will have to decide for yourself if our water supply in West Sussex is under threat.  You may or may not be aware but Cuadrilla Resources Ltd have an application for a mining waste permit to manage wastes arising from an exploratory borehole to test for oil reserves at Balcombe in West Sussex, (also in Broadford Bridge near West Chiltington and Wisborough Green).  The question is how can a company dispose of this much radioactive and chemical waste safely? A typical well uses 40,000 gallons of fracturing fluid per fracture and apart from the strain on our already meagre water reserves, where will all this water go?  You might like to read more here and then decide if you want to partition against it http://www.avaaz.org/en/petition/Stop_the_poisoning_of_the_entire_Sussex_water_supply/?pv=11.

If you decide you are against test drilling and fracking in Sussex you should express your Stop frackingviews to the Environment Agency more information here https://www.facebook.com/notes/frack-free-sussex/urgent-guidance-on-responding-before-16th-july-to-cuadrillas-application-to-the-/452274618201262.

This group NoFiBS (No Fracking in Balcombe Society) are village residents from Balcombe who have got together over concerns about unconventional gas and oil exploration in the area.  There is lots of information here too!

Whilst making up your mind this documentary GasLands is a must. It looks at American-rural landowners who wake up one day to find a lucrative offer from an energy company wanting to lease their property. Reason? The company hopes to tap into a reservoir dubbed the “Saudi Arabia of natural gas.” Halliburton developed a way to get the gas out of the ground-a hydraulic drilling process called “fracking”and suddenly America finds itself on the precipice of becoming an energy superpower……You can rent it here from Love Films.
