Join our Eco Billingshurst Carnival Procession

Grandparents, parents & children sharing ‘The Future We Want’ at Billingshurst Carnival

Come and join our ‘The Future We Want’ Billingshurst Carnival Procession

This is your invitation to come, have fun and share your greener living message with our Sussex Green Living carnival procession. For a second year running we are taking a procession in the Billingshurst carnival, run by the Billingshurst Rotary on Sunday 24th June.  Last year about 30 local people of all ages and two eco vehicles joined us, learn more here. This years Rotary theme is Heroes and Villains, our theme is The Future We Want – Greener Living!

We are delighted, that this year the Billinghurst Rotary Club actually invited us to organise the procession!  They have also asked us to help run a school upcycling ‘Dragon’s Head’completition, with participating schools being invited to join us.  Children will have the opportunity to connect their upcycled Dragon’s Head to our upcycled body for a section of the procession – this is Goran, the Earth Dragon – a hero!

The following electric vehicals will be demonstrating greener driving (all heroes): Renault Zoe, EV BMW i3, Mercedes B Class and a  Nissan e-NV200 white van, we will also be joined by a biodesiel campervan, West Sussex based ethical textile recycling company Bags of Support’s van and West Sussex solar company CC Solar’s van.

Would would warmly welcome any other EV car owners to join us, we do need to know how many vehicles will be in our procession so please do contact us here. We need one dirty deseil to be the villian at the rear of the procession! Special auto marker pens will be available to write spectacular messages on the cars if owners wish, they are designed for non-porous vehicle surfaces, such as paintwork and windscreens.

Walkers and cyclists are also welcome as are transport heroes! If you are coming on foot or bike please email Carrie to confirm your planned participation, then by Monday 18th June. On Sunday 24th June we will meet outside  the Billingshurst Lion’s bookshop in Jengers Mead by 11.15am (parents must be responsible for any children they bring). The procession will leave Jengers Mead at 12 noon.

Cars/vehicles must arrive before 11am. Cars joining the SGL procession should park in the parking bays in front of the Billingshurst Lions bookshop and behind the parade of shops. The high street will be closed to vehicles by 11.15am.

Dress code for the procession: Either dressed with a greener living message – a hero, or a ‘future we do not’ want message – villain. Get creative with other greener living costumes, the world is your oyster! Alternatively, please dress in green with floral garlands or a flower behind your ear!

Goran the Earth Dragon is going to an International Green Culture Festival in Montenegro in May and then praticipating in the Sussex Green Living Share Fare in the Human Nature Garden, Horsham Park on 8th July. Come and learn his story in a magical storytelling session at this unique event. Learn more here.
