Sussex Green Living launches Horsham Youth Eco Forum Zoom virtual weekly meetings
Sussex Green Living (SGL) are excited to launch the Horsham Youth Eco Forum as part of the development of Horsham Climate Cafe.
Since its opening in December 2019, Horsham Climate Cafe – a collaborative project established by SGL, Horsham Quakers and many volunteers – has wanted to offer a space for local young environmentalists to meet and share ideas. As we adapt to socially-distant lives, the community formed by HCC feels more important than ever, and the Eco Youth Forum will offer an opportunity for young people aged 11+ to connect on a weekly basis.
Both the climate crisis and the current pandemic raise big questions for the future of younger generations and it is important to be able to discuss concerns and to problem-solve in a creative and collaborative way. Sussex Green Living hopes that the creation of this forum will enable young people to tackle eco-anxiety with eco-action and being an essential part of the local green community.

Sussex Green Living launches Horsham Future Forum Zoom virtual weekly meetings
Local people and local groups are being given a way to virtually connect, share ideas and a vision for a better Horsham district. Every Tuesday from 2nd June 7-8pm using Zoom, Sussex Green Living (SGL), the charity behind Horsham Climate Café (HCC) and Horsham Repair Café (HRC) will be hosting these meetings.
The forum already has members from groups such as Horsham Churches Together, No Incinerator 4 Horsham, Transition Horsham, Horsham Quakers, Extinction Rebellion Horsham and of course SGL, HRC and HCC.
The weekly meeting were identified as a timely way to build on the Horsham Climate Café events which ran during lockdown for eight consecutive weeks, now running on the first Saturday of every month. These events attracted built up to about 90 delegates and were well appreciated by attendees. Mark Francis one of the HCC attendees and member of this new forum says “We are a collection of local groups and people who believe that the world is facing an unprecedented climate emergency and that our natural environment is being eroded. Both of these will have significant consequences for life on this planet”. He continued “We believe now is the time for local groups across the Horsham District to capitalise on the positives from Corvid-19 by working together to help achieve lasting environmental changes”.
The World is starting to realise that the pandemic, while disastrous in so many ways, has thrown up some unexpected gains such as cleaner air, valuing people more and cherishing our green spaces. Helen Whittington another member of the forum, a Horsham Quaker and Horsham Climate Café organiser added “We believe we all should learn from these climate and society benefits, aim for “better”, and not simply go “back to the old normal”.
Horsham Future Forum aspires to become a leading voice in encouraging consolidation of these gains at a local level by holding parish, district and county councils to account, supporting the efforts of its member groups to achieve change and taking action to promote attitude and behavioural adjustments across communities in the area.
