Promoting Awareness of Low Carbon Retrofit in Sussex
Appeal for help from Warmer Sussex
Free Energy Efficiency Retrofit Webinar Series FROM Warmer Sussex for RetrofitWorks starts on 16th February 2021.
Cath Geoghegan, Scheme Manager, Warmer Sussex said: “Please help us promote awareness of low carbon retrofit in Sussex!”
Who are Warmer Sussex and what do we do?
Warmer Sussex is a not-for-private-profit cooperative, working with a range of community organisations retrofit experts and fully vetted local tradespeople to help the people of Sussex in their journey to a warm, healthy and energy efficient home.
We support our customers from start to finish to improve their home’s energy efficiency. We create a tailored plan, our Whole House Plan, which assesses homes as a whole. We then find trusted contractors to complete the work, and ensure all work undertaken meets quality standards.
All our contractors become members of our cooperative with the option of becoming Trustmark registered.
What are we promoting?
We will be holding a short series of free webinars throughout February and March, starting with ‘The Beginner’s Guide to Retrofit’. We will also run webinars to help local people understand more about insulation measures and renewable heating.
Who is it for? These webinars are aimed at Sussex homeowners who want a warm and healthy home, are not sure where to start with energy efficiency improvements and would like to know more about what they could do.
Where will it be held? Our webinars will be hosted via Zoom – with registration required via Eventbrite.
The first one will take place at 7.00pm-8.00pm on Tuesday 16th February.

How you can help
As you may be aware, old and inefficient housing stock contributes to 14% of the UK’s carbon emissions. We want to build knowledge and awareness of the need for domestic retrofit amongst Sussex residents and provide expert advice on how they could do it.
We would love to reach as wide an audience as possible across Sussex. By mentioning our webinars and creating or sharing our social media posts, you will help us do that.
Some of the ways you could help us are:
- Sharing our webinar social media posts and tagging us
- Interact with our social media profiles, sharing relevant posts and links
- Share our website www.warmersussex.co.uk
- Contacting us for our Webinar Marketing pack
- Sharing the content we have included in our pack either online or in resident newsletters, emails or other communications
Our social channels

Instagram: @warmersussex
Facebook: @warmersussex (page)
Any other communication channels?
If you are planning on sending out any newsletters or looking for content for blog posts, we would happily provide relevant content on how homeowners can take action to improve their homes.
We would be very happy to participate in and promote events that you are organising that aim to promote low carbon living (whether online or in person in the future) to chat about how we can help Sussex homeowners.
We enjoyed working together with several Sussex community organisations in 2020 and hope to expand even further in 2021. Some examples are below.
- Attending the Kinder Living event
- Wealden Green Party Newsletter
- Our feature in Transition Town Lewes
- Our retrofit Q&A with Greening Steyning
- Sussex Green Living – you can listen to a podcast from the Warmer Sussex talk on 1st August 2020 here.
Opportunities for Energy Efficiency Retrofit across Sussex
We have included some examples of data produced by our software, based on current Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs), to show the average energy efficiency performance of homes across Sussex (average CO2 emissions and fuel bill per household) split by local authority areas.
Just as an example, we looked at ‘Uninsulated roofs & room-in-roofs’. This data comes from EPC surveys and shows that across Sussex, there are at least 77,569 uninsulated roofs and room-in-roofs!
This means there is a significant opportunity for thousands of residents to improve the performance of their homes through improving insulation, thereby reducing CO2 emissions and fuel bills.
