Recycling is the fastest way to zero waste
When you recycle, you stop manufacturers using new raw materials and degrading the environment. And because you’re not extracting and processing minerals, water and wood, it uses less energy too. Mining, quarrying and logging are all highly polluting, energy intensive and they damage biodiversity.
Recycling saves carbon emissions as well. UK recycling saves the equivalent of 18 million tonnes of CO2 each year: that’s the same as keeping 5 million cars off the road.
In these pages you can find out where and how to recycle at home, and at local council centres. You’ll also find out what to do with hard-to-recycle items.
