Our sewing team can turn their hands to most things textile related, from hemming to shortening trousers, replacing zips or invisible mending. We can repair all sorts of textiles from clothes to cushions and curtains.

As with the electrical repairs, the volunteers are brilliant at showing you what they are doing so you can hopefully repair some items yourself in future.

There are some things we are not able to repair due to not having the right equipment.

We cannot repair handbags and other leather goods.

If you have a zip that needs replacing, please remove the old zip and bring a replacement zip with you.

Teddy Bear Repairs

Due to the increase in popularity of teddy bear repairs and the amount of time (and love) involved in the repairs, we are now asking for donations based on the amount of work to be done.
If you would like your Ted repaired, please email Karen at with photos of your Ted and what needs to be done and we will give you a quote. This will be considerably less than what you would have to pay if you went to an ‘official’ teddy bear repair company and will include the cost of a replacement growler and new waistcoats/natty bow ties.
Your donation will be a valuable contribution allowing us to continue the good works of the Repair Cafe and Sussex Green Living.
Booking your appointment

Please make sure all items are clean and currently with Covid restrictions we would ask you to place your item for repair in a plastic bag for 72 hours before your repair. Bring the item unsealed in the bag to your appointment. Thank you.

We are now booking 30-minute appointment times for repairs so that you can be seen on time and that we can see a larger number of people for repairs. If we are unable to fix something within the time booked, the volunteer may agree to take it home to fix it, or if more extensive work is required that needs payment, they can discuss that with you.

We have opened up slots to book appointments in the afternoon up until 2.30pm.

If you do decide to drop in on the off chance of a repair we may be able to help you if the volunteers are free, but people who have booked appointments will get priority.
